One of the two QuiltCon 2017 design challenges is the American Patchwork & Quilting Nine-Patch Challenge!
It doesn’t get more basic than a nine-patch block, which means there’s a lot of potential! Participants for this challenge are asked to modernize a traditional nine-patch block (any variation is acceptable), and make it into a modern quilt using modern quilting elements. Finished quilts can be any size.
Some examples include:
- Using modern color palettes including high contrast and graphic areas
- Improvisational piecing
- Expansive negative space
- Alternate grid work
Official category description: Eligible quilts reimagine the traditional nine-patch block using modern quilting elements. Any variation of the nine-patch is acceptable.
The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2016. You can submit entries along with other QuiltCon submissions at quiltconentry.com.
